THE JOINT INSTITUTE OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF BELARUS

The State Scientific Institution “Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus” (further - Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the NAS of Belarus) was established by decision of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus dated May 17, 2006 № 45 as a result of reorganization of the Institute of Mechanics and Reliability of Machiny of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in the form of annexation the Scientific and Engineering Republican Unitary Enterprise “Belavtotractorostroyeniye” to it.

August 17, 1957 is considered to be the day of establishment of the Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus when by decision of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR the Institute of Machine Study of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR was established.

Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is leading research centre in the sphere of mechanics and mechanical engineering. Two centers of collective sharing are functioning by it: the Republican Machine Engineering Computer Center and the Centre of Structural Research and Tribo-Mechanical Test of Materials and Machine-Building Output.

At the present time two Heroes of Belarus are working in the Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Among researchers there are one academician, three associate members, fifteen doctors and fifty-nine candidates of technical science.

MAIN DIRECTIONS OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
 in basic and applied research
  • engineering science, mechanics, reliability and safety of machines and technical systems;
  • the theory of design, mechatronic systems of machines and mechanisms;
  • new composite, polymer, metal materials, nano- and microstructure materials;
  • friction and wear in machines, management structure and surface properties, including at the nanoscopic level.


    in scientific and technological activities - scientific support, organization and coordination of work on the creation of export-oriented automotive vehicles and combines, equipped with multi-level integrated electronic adaptive control systems and diagnostic knots and aggregates that include mechatronic components and intelligent devices:

  • high-powered tractors and combines;
  • trucks and autotrains, including multi-tier modular type;
  • buses, including superlow floors articulated in 2-3-section, with hybrid propulsion systems;
  • mining dump truck with capacity of 95-500 tons;
  • multi-wheeled haulage truck, logging equipment; road building, municipal vehicles, municipal electric vehicle.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
  • certification of mobile machines, their equipment and parts, the approval of types of vehicles;
  • bench, road tests, diagnosis of technical condition of mobile machines;
  • consulting and certification of quality management systems engineering enterprises in accordance with ISO;
  • education of scientific brainpower of higher qualification;
  • patent research;
  • issue of scientific, industrial and practical, normative production practices, reference books;
  • issue of international scientific journal "Mechanics of Machines, Mechanisms and Materials"
